Photo-a-Day - March 2013 - Day 31: Stuff
A shopping basket full of very useful stuff bequeathed to me by Jody before her move. Bath and facial tissues, light bulbs galore, laundry products, Q-Tips, bandages, sponges, and OTTER POPS!

Photo-a-Day - March 2013 - Day 28: Zoo
I may not be able to access any of my slides from trips to the zoo, but I can create my own personal zoo of tigers and bears (sorry, no lions). The middle three are the ones I've had since I was small and the ones who protected me from monsters under the bed. Even the crocheted blanket is part of the zoo as it is the snuggle that came with my cat, T.S. Elliot, when I adopted him.

A very handy pair of items for any crocheter or knitter to have: a swift to hold a hank of yarn and a winder to form it into cakes or balls of yarn.

By now, I think everyone knows how important crocheting for charity is to me. This is the sixth blanket I've made this year, so far, for Stitches from the Heart.

Photo-a-Day - March 2013 - Day 25: In My Drawer
Within the body of this liberal, activist, feminist lies an old-fashioned girl who loves hand-crafted items. The potholders, apron and embroidered tea towels were made by Gran Nissen. The stenciled tea towels were done by me. The hand-made tea cozy was made by a friend. Every items is infused with love.

Photo-a-Day - March 2013 - Day 23: What I Do for Fun
I love spending time with friends, both collectively and individually; in person and on line. I love to crochet for charity, watching British television shows and movies. For me, reading is fun, and so are road trips; whether near or far. Most of all, I find having a positive attitude makes any day fun.

Photo-a-Day - March 2013 - Day 21: Working
Every now and then, you read a book which ends up having a major impact on the way you think and, by result, who you are. "Working" by Suds Terkel was one such book for me. After reading it, and seeing the televised musical, I was never able to view people in the same way again.
Each person is an individual. Although we are all different, we are all essentially the same.
I was very fortunate to meet Mr. Terkel, tell him how much his book has meant to me and to have him sign it.

Photo-a-Day - March 2013 - Day 16: Ansel Adams Inspired
Ansel Adams is best known for his sweeping landscapes photographed in black and white with sharp contrasts and deep black shadows. Two of his favorite subjects were Yosemite National Park and the Grand Canyon.
The photograph on the left was taken by Ansel Adams. The photograph on the right is one taken by me. Both were taken at the Grand Canyon. Mine was originally in color but, thanks to PicMonkey, has been color adjusted to black and white, with the contrast sharpened. Not too bad, I don't think.
Adams photographed other subject, as well. However, I don't find he photographed cemeteries. However, I had the photograph of this angel guarding a mausoleum at Mountain view cemetery in Oakland. She reminded me that, although we each have wounds or scars, visible or invisible, we persevere. We continue on and learn to fly again even if our style may be awkward and our path a bit lopsided.

Photo-a-Day - March 2013 - Day 15: Explore
Sometimes, if your very lucky, even though you're traveling on business, you have an opportunity to explore a new place. Thanks to a friend I made in Toronto, she made it possible for me to explore a bit of Ontario and to see Lake Ontario from her mom's house. In the distance, you can see the mist rise from Niagara Falls.

I love wind chimes and have 13 of them outside or next to various windows. The three by my front door are the largest and deepest in tone. Happily, my neighbors have told me they enjoy them as well.
I wanted to re-film this so it wouldn't be sideways. Unfortunately, the wind died.

Photo-a-Day - March 2013 - Day 8: Favorite
How do I select "a favorite". There are so many more things I value, enjoy, appreciate, than those I dislike. My parents; my friends, my furry family, special books, movies I watch again and again, places I love, music that transports me, foods I savor.
There is, however, one thing that always comes to mind. In lean times or in plenty, simple or fancy, I do LOVE pasta. Yes, pasta, of any type and in any form, is a definite favorite.

Every month, for the past 18 years, 3 months, I've set up the room our The East Bay Mystery Readers' Group. Every month, I have the FEAR that no one will show up. Every month, my FEAR has proven to be unfounded. I do love the EBRMG!

Photo-a-Day - March 2013 - Day 4: Lucky
I believe in blessings, rather than luck. I am incredibly blessed to know such kind, and generous people as Marian. She enabled me to retire my 33+-year old mattress by giving me her 5-year-old Tempur-Pedic matress. I've wanted one for years but affording one was impossible. Now I not only sleep well at night, but wake up without any hip pain in the morning. That is a blessing.
And yes, I would be lovely to have the model's shape. Ah, well.

The sound of a pendulum clock is one I find very comforting. Never being one to do things by halves, I have nine pendulum clocks in my house. Sadly, only six are currently working. Still, one could say I do have a lot of time on my hands.

Light. Sometimes a complete mistake ends up being quite wonderful. I was trying to photograph the last light of the sun peaking through a break in the branches of a tree. My setting were completely wrong and this was the result. I just love a happy accident.
