Among the many Aussie authors you mentioned, I have to admit that my wife and I have very much enjoyed Colleen McCullough's "The Thornbirds." We have the hardback, audio and DVD versions and read listen and watch them at least once a year!

I might also mention that while researching for my Trilogy I came across an Australian-British lawyer, John Lang, who wrote a memoir of his travels in India in the 1850's, titled: "Wanderings In India". Among the many notable persons and events he wrote about, there is a fascinating account of his meeting with the Rani Of Jhansi, just prior to her battles (and death) with the British forces. The books, being out of copyright, is available as a free download at Google Books.

Best wishes for your writings.

Wally
http://home.cogeco.ca/~wrabbaniWally Rabbanihttp://home.cogeco.ca/~wrabbaninoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1624195623041420024.post-72493758858228591572011-01-25T09:27:39.985-08:002011-01-25T09:27:39.985-08:00Wendy, That's incredible that you saw Marcus Z...Wendy, That's incredible that you saw Marcus Zusak. "The Book Thief" is on my best-of-all-time list and the audio version is incredible because of the excellent narrator. It's not till August.

Natalie, did you know I actually met Marcus Zusak. He was giving a talk to Year 7s at the college where I worked. Didn't actually speak to him, but I nodded when he was introduced to the group by the librarian.:) I doubt he'd remember me.lol.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00435753141533984134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1624195623041420024.post-6198022250656866232011-01-24T21:14:33.845-08:002011-01-24T21:14:33.845-08:00Such an eclectic list with some of my favourites t...Such an eclectic list with some of my favourites too, especially the Aussie writers Lian Hearn and Marcus Zusak. Anne Whitfield really knows how to tell a story and her characterization pulls you deep into the book.

I'm very limited with time these days so do read much mystery anymore. Like you, Wendy, I read a good share of Agatha Christie's books when I was a teenager, and we have similar conclusions of her stories. Once you get past the old style of writing, her stories always are compelling.

Best of luck to you, Wendy, and your new August release!

JacquieJacquie Rogershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17361793932364487636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1624195623041420024.post-61090237784924793782011-01-23T13:14:03.628-08:002011-01-23T13:14:03.628-08:00Excellent post, and all the books sound fascinatin...Excellent post, and all the books sound fascinating.
