Photo-a-Day - June 2012 - Day 22: Movement
There are nine pendulum clocks in my house, eight of which are working. However, in only two of them is the pendulum visible. Watching the pendulum is hypnotic...."you are getting sleepy...". I was hypnotized once as part of a group training session. It's rather a weird feeling. I was aware, but not completely in control. Have you ever been hypnotized? Care to share?

I love pendulum clocks and find them wonderfully relaxing. When I was in my early teens our family dentist was trying hypnosis instead of local anesthetic. He didn't try it, but had his wife (a therapist, if I remember) try the hypnosis. I flunked! I remember being told that I just wouldn't let go enough...something about my mind being too logical and that she thought I was trying to analyze everything she said. I've always wanted to try again, but had a friend (a psychologist) tell me that he thought I might have been too logical about the process. Too funny because that makes me sound like Mr. Spock and I'm not!
ReplyDeleteI love your story and completely understand. When they hypnotized me, I was a tough subject. For the same reason I never drank much or did drugs, I don't like not being in control. While I did go under, it wasn't as completely as some and I was always very much aware.
ReplyDeleteAttempts have been made to hypnotize me, but I think my issue with being in control of "things" kept me from falling under the spell. I would love to try again.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to do regression hypnosis. That would be fascinating.
